Inspiration for our Journey
To follow are inspirational thoughts to assist you in your journey
of overcoming your godless desire and seeking to be at the feet of Jesus.

Inspiration: April 4, 2011
Be persistent in prayer. Deepen your everyday prayer life by praying through temptation. Each time you are tempted to do something that is part of your godless desire (e.g. pick up the phone to gossip), use that temptation to prompt you to pray. God gave us the gift of prayer to turn our times of desperation into relationship opportunities with Him. Ask for God's wisdom, revelation and intervening power to be an integral part of the choices you make.

Are you focusing on the things that you cannot change . . . bringing yourself down by buying into the deception that you are defeated because you can't change those things? If we allow our brains to park on unchangeable defeats,  it gives Satan room to strip us of motivation. Do not forget the benefits a Christian receives from the Lord. He forgives all our sins, heals all our diseases, redeems us from death and crowns us with love and tender mercies. (Psalm 103:1-5) The Lord fills our lives with good things - not the world and certainly not ourselves!! If we focus on the things we cannot change (e.g. circumstances in our lives), then we will not focus on the benefits of our salvation and we will be zapped of motivation. Commit to focus on the benefits from the Lord and see how this perspective will motivate you.

Are you saying to yoursef, "I'm not ready for this!" Do you already feel defeated?
When we are aware of the godless desire in our lives, we shouldn't assume the struggle is over. The battle has just begun. Always remember that God is aware of the temptation you face. Not only that, He is compassionate about your struggle. (Hebrews 4:15-16) Ask Christ not only to make you aware of temptation, but also to empower you by His grace and strength to overcome. When temptation comes, adapt this prayer: "Father I don't understand the power that is against me, but You do and You have promised to help. To overcome this godless desire in my life, I now claim the power that rose Christ from the dead." Prayerfully recall Romans 8:11,
"And if the Spirit of Him who raised Jesus from the dead is living in you, He who raised Christ from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies through His Spirit, Who lives in you."

Are you saturated in God's truth? We can only overcome temptation by saturating ourselves in God's truth. When Jesus was tempted by Satan in the desert He battled the temptation with God's truth. (Matthew 4:1-11) When we are focused on our godless desire we become saturated in the object of that desire. Feeling consumed by the desire, we make spiritually unhealthy choices. It is at these times that we too must rely on the truth of God's Word to help us. Truth is powerful. The more saturated we are in truth, the more powerful we will be in resisting our temptations. As a way to saturate yourself in the truth of God's Word, memorize a verse(s) that you can use during these times of great temptation.
